R4 Victoria in the BooksPosted Wednesday, January 17th, 2018The PROTOform Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series Round 4 flew into the beautiful Pacific island town of Victoria (Sidney), British Columbia for Speed Weekend! Hosted by IROCC, the team of volunteers led by track builder extraordinaire Craig Roberts put down yet another great track! High speed and flowing, it put the focus on the racing, while the brand new spec tire, the Sweep QTS-32 BK (Black Carpet edition) provided the perfect tire for the high grip, fast layout. With racers flying in from all over Western Canada and the northern US, it was once again a great event! To top it all off, Motive RC sponsored the WCICS Live coverage streaming all weekend long! Huge thanks to Blake Bell, Luke Pittman, Craig Roberts, Neil Johnson providing tech all weekend, and the entire RD and track building crew, this was just an amazing weekend! RC America/XRay TC Mod: Team Awesomatix's Wayne Mah, last year’s TC Mod Champion, is currently on a perfect streak of TQ’s and Wins, and lands in Victoria and continues to tear it up! Setting a fast TQ over a great field, edging out Team Ray’s Korey Harbke and Team XRay’s Luke Pittman. Wayne then went on to a perfect double win, to watch the battle for the rest of the podium in A3. Dave Erhlich would drive his XRay T4 to the win in R3, and end up 2nd overall, with Korey completing the podium. Team Great Hobbies TC Stock: As if dominating TC Mod wasn’t enough, Team Awesomatix's Wayne has done exactly the same in Stock. Last year’s champion is on a perfect streak, and he three-peated in Victoria! But this time Team XRay's Luke Pittman would make him work hard for it, pushing Wayne to the end every round, and taking the win in R2, would put him 2nd overall. Dave Ehrlich with two second place finishes would take third overall. Blinds Plus Tamiya Mini: Calgary’s Sammy Lee would set TQ, and win R1, but then Dustin Quanstrom would take the R2 win. In the final showdown, Sammy took the win and the top trophy, with Dustin second, and Calgary’s Ian Buchan taking his first WCICS podium. Congrats Ian!!! ATD Hobbies Scale Spec: With a great turnout for this fun class, Calgary’s Dwayne Flodell would dominate the show, TQ and winning the first 2 rounds just ahead of Sammy Lee who won R3. B.C.’s Brent Wende would finish third overall with a combined 2nd in R1, and 3rd in R3. CRC 12th Stock: In the biggest class of the weekend was definitely the most exciting! In one of the qualifiers, the top 6 drivers would run the full 8 minutes with never more than a 1.5sec spread from top to bottom! Team CRC’s Adam Balk from North Dakota would take TQ, but Team Roche Racing’s Brian Bodine from Washington would snatch the R1 and R2 wins. Race organizer and RD, former Canadian National Champion, and Team XRay driver Blake Bell would qualify 2nd, finish 2nd in R2 & R3, and take home the second place trophy (that he ordered, lol). Adam would suffer tough luck in the mains, with a 2nd and a 3rd, putting him in 3rd on the podium. All of them stood proud at the end having put on a show with some amazing racing! Reedy 12th Mod: In the fastest class of the weekend, Washington's Team XRay driver Korey Harbke and fellow Team XRay member Blake Bell would battle it out, but Korey would set TQ, and take R1 & R2 wins, with Blake taking the R3 win and 2nd overall. Team Associated’s young and upcoming star Stuart Mason from Washington did a simply amazing job, with a 2nd place in R2, and a 4th in R1, it would come down to a tie-breaker on point with local Track Builder and pan car driver extraordinaire Craig Roberts, with Stuart standing on the podium in third after the accounting was done. Great job Stuart in what I believe is also his first WCICS podium!!! Gripworks F1: Ed Mardones would drive his Marlboro McLaren to TQ, cut would have to fight for the trophy after a 6th in R1, which was won by Calgary’s Sammy Lee. But fight he did, with a 2nd and 1st securing him the top podium spot. Penticton’s Colin Roussel would win R2, and with his 2nd place in R1, would come down to a tie-breaker decision with Ed, but ultimately end up on the 2nd spot. Sammy Lee, with a 3rd in R3, finished on the last step of the podium, but still got to taste the champagne! PROTOform Concourse was awarded to Doug Smith, with a very white/blue angles theme. All 3 top picks received a PROTOform body with which to create their next masterpiece. Thank you IROCC for once again hosting the PROTOform WCICS series in Victoria! We look forward to Round 5 in Regina, Saskatchewan, hosted by Fastraxx on Feb 2nd! PROTOform WCICS 2015/2016 SeasonPosted Thursday, September 24th, 2015This season the Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series WCICS celebrates its 25th year as one of the world’s largest RC series, and is very proud to announce that PROTOform has joined the series as Title sponsor! WCICS President Josh Carter said “PROTOform is originally a Canadian company, with their design studio still located in the Great White North. They are a fantastic organization, a natural fit, and a wonderful partner for WCICS. Huge thanks to Eric and Dale and the entire team at PF, we look forward to many successful years together!” Always improving the racing experience, WCICS is one of the first RC series in the world to move to the new 12th Scale Spec tires (WGT Stripe) as a spec tire for the 12th Stock class. This new spec compound is a great fit for the stock class, creating an even more driver focused class than before! Not to be left out, in the TC classes WCICS is changing to the Sweep 28’s for both Stock and Modified. With the same solid Sweep rims, wrapped with a slightly softer 28 tire giving more grip, but still great longevity, this is sure to create even tighter racing! WCICS, with 8 classes and well over 1000 registrations over 8 races across Western Canada, will kick off its 25th season September 25th in Saskatoon, SK. Results Finally Up!Posted Tuesday, April 28th, 2015Nearly a month later and the web guy finally gets a few minutes to update the site with results! Go get em. And sorry for the delay. Don't hate. WCICS Round 8 - Calgary This Weekend!Posted Thursday, March 27th, 2015Well what a season! The finale is happening this weekend in Calgary, Alberta and is looking to be an excellent wrap up to an excellent season with entries looking good and even a couple out-of-countriers making their way up to the race. Don't forget that the annual AGM happens at this race, so get your thoughts and ideas to your club rep and make sure they attend the meeting. See you all this weekend! WCICS Round 7 - KamloopsPosted Thursday, March 27th, 2015The Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series makes one final stop in the mountains at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, British Columbia. Round 7: Mid Winter Challenge, is hosted by the TVRCRC. This club each season relocates its track and equipment to a beautiful indoor facility offering great racing and great viewing for the public. Another great show of entries from all the provinces in the series, and some joining from south of the border. Each class showed full support, and great racing action. ![]() Team CRC WGT: TQ holder Korgae Scales had shown impressive pace all weekend and the main was no different. Craig Roberts drove a solid race for second just 4 seconds back. Third place was a three way battle for most of the race, between 3 drivers. Frank Bortolazzo claimed the spot with less than a tenth after a final lap bobble. ![]() ATD Hobbies Tamiya Mini ORCA: This was a battle between a cold and cool Alberta driver and a head high local. Series leader, Ivan Chan increased the pace round to round fending off TVRCRC Prez Brent Wende. It was clear from the first round Saturday morning, that this was going to be a battle to the end. Both drivers managed traffic well with Ivan leading until an incident with less than a minute to go. Brent took over the lead with Ivan quickly closing the gap. The two drivers came together with 3 laps to go, Ivan getting the better of the accident for the win. …post-race Ivan shock hands with Brent and exchanged awards with him. A truly sportsman moment of the weekend. ![]() Gravity RC CTA: This class didn’t seem to be about which driver took TQ, rather, which car; an old school Trans Am or a more refined GT race car. Kevin Soukoroff showed that old school muscle was the pace setter taking both TQ and the win. Ivan Chan and Mike San Antonio followed with their GT cars. ![]() Reedy 12th Stock: Dave Ehrlich joined us from south of the border chased all weekend by Blake Bell, Craig Roberts and Dwayne Flodell. From the start tone, Dave left the gate and never looked back. The rest of us got to enjoy the battle for second between the Blake, Craig and Dwayne. Craig suffered from mechanical issue mid race which left just Blake and Dwayne battling for 2nd. It appeared that Blake had it secured, but Dwayne closed the gap and took the position with 2mins to go. The final minute saw them exchange positions again giving Blake 2nd and Dwayne 3rd. ![]() Novak 12th Mod: Dave Ehrlich again led the train of cars on the way to TQ. Blake and Craig were joined by Jason Melnyk in the chase. Dave beat the computer doing repeated sub 7.2sec laps around the track. Craig shot into second, Blake following after some trouble in the opening laps; they exchanged positions throughout the first half of the race before Craig had a large incident and retired. Meanwhile, Jason Melnyk was also recovering from trouble in the opening minute and slowly working his way up taking third on the final lap after a last lap bobble by Ivan Chan. ![]() Auto Trim F1: F1 was well supported at the 2014 Mid Winter as a demo class, this year was no different as it became a full Series class. Ivan Chan (Calgary), a leader in the on again, off again appearance of F1 class, was the driver to beat this weekend. Earl Towson and Brandon Rogers were up for the challenge though. They exchanged positions throughout the main but Earl settled into a groove and held off the younger driver to finish second. ![]() Great Hobbies TC Stock: A series favourite, again was the largest class of the weekend. The battle upfront was fierce from qualifying on to the starting line Sunday afternoon. Korgae Scales at the pole, Ivan Chan in second, and Dustin Quanstrom in third. Early stages of the race, the order would remain unchanged and the three together on the track. A minor mistake in traffic let Dustin through to finish second with Korgae maintaining the lead to the finish buzzer. ![]() Awesomatix TC Mod: Each round saw the lap times get faster and faster from all drivers. Dave Ehrlich and his VBC Racing equipment was the pairing to beat all weekend. Managing pole position, he would be followed by Blake Bell and Korgae Scales. Blake suffered from a first lap mistake tumbling him to 6th allowing Dustin Quanstrom and Korgae to 2nd and 3rd, and giving Dave a 1 second cushion before the end of the first lap. Korgae quickly took over second and Blake began the climb back to the lead group. After 2mins the two were now within just inches on the track, each having to give and take to avoid colliding. At the one minute mark, Blake edged by and held onto second to the finish line. Thank you TVRCRC for a stellar final round in British Columbia. Now back over the Rockies to Calgary, Alberta for the Round 8 hosted by CARCAR. Full Results, photos and series standings available at www.wcics.ca or check out our facebook page. WCICS Round 6 - Moose JawPosted Wednesday, February 11th, 2015The Western Canadian Indoor Championship Series visited the wide open prairies of Saskatchewan, this time in Moose Jaw for Round 6, hosted by Fastraxx. A little town with a big race, and as the countdown to the finals begins the championships battles are getting close! ![]() Team CRC WGT: 2013 WCICS WGT Champion Korgae Scales showed once again why he’s been Champion 3 years in a row, setting TQ and after an early mistake, fighting back to take the win. XRay’s Luke Pittman, in just over a year has become a great racer and took 2nd, and 3rd went to WCICS Pres, top privateer Josh Carter. ![]() ATD Hobbies/ORCA Tamiya Mini: Calgary’s Ivan Chan took TQ and win over Robbie Langley in a great battle. Robbie represented his home province well! Another Calgarian, Mike San Antonio drove a great race to finish just a few seconds back in 3rd. ![]() Gravity RC CTA: Saskatoon’s Nick Kinar took the TQ and win, ahead of Cam Spence. Don Buck joins his son in taking home some hardware coming in 3rd! ![]() Reedy 12th Stock: WCICS Media Director Luke Pittman took the weekend with TQ and a big win with his XRay, simply impressive in his first full season of racing! It was a lot of paint being traded in the battle for 2nd, but respectful as both drivers would wait if contact cause any troubles. In the end Calgary’s Jim Chapman took 2nd over Ivan Chan. ![]() Auto Trim F1: Ivan Chan took his Jordan to TQ & win. Again Mike San Antonio joined on the podium, this time in 2nd. Jesse Vine had some handling challenges but came in 3rd. ![]() Great Hobbies TC Stock: In the largest class of the weekend, Alberta’s Steve Soon and his Serpent set TQ, but was under constant pressure from Saskatchewan’s Danny Buck and his XRay. Both drivers drove perfect races, and they ended just where they started, just a few seconds apart. Ivan Chan was third. ![]() Awesomatix TC Mod: The most dramatic high speed main of the weekend! This time Danny Buck and his XRay had pole, but an early mistake put him back to 5th. Korgae Scales and his Awesomatix then had the lead for the first minute, but Steve Soon, who had started second on the grid, took the lead on lap 6 with his Serpent and never looked back. Danny battled all the way back and passed Korgae with just a minute to go to take 2nd. Korgae brought his Awesomatix home 3rd. Thanks to Fastraxx for an absolutely spectacular weekend! Next we’re traveling back across the mountains to Kamloops, British Columbia for Round 7 on Mar 6-8th. Karz VP Scott West rounded out the podium. ![]() Gravity RC CTA: Cal Freeman didn’t like finishing second in Mini, so in his next class he took TQ and Win! Following just behind again was Karz VP Scott West. Shane Eaton finished off the podium, just a few seconds behind. ![]() Reedy 12th Stock: IROC President & CRC Team’s Blake Bell repeats his performance from Round 3, taking TQ & win! Thanks to Karz club for a great race and Julie and Lauren as the best Trophy Girls ever!
